Most of people have many concerns about how braces work. Detroit Michigan Orthodontist Dr. Kabot would like to explain the ideologies behind braces. There are no complicated explanations on how braces work. Braces put a continuous pressure on the teeth and slowly move them to the desired position. It takes generally from 1 year to 2 years. As the teeth move, it leaves behind empty spaces, which will be filled with bone. The advancing technologies create better and less noticeable braces. Nowadays, there are many different options and types of braces. There are some that blend in the teeth for cosmetic purposes. Also braces can be fun to wear since it comes with many different colors, brands, and forms. Detroit Michigan Orthodontist Dr. Kabot offers all kinds of braces and retainers so you have a huge variety to choose from.
Detroit Michigan Orthodontist Dr. Kabot wants to explain the three general types of braces. They are brackets, lingual-type brackets, and traditional bands. The brackets are made out of plastic, steel or clear tooth-colored ceramic, and stainless steel. The disadvantage for this type of braces is the plastic brackets color may fade as the result of the treatment. Also the plastic brackets will make you wear braces for a longer time because there is more friction between the wire and the brackets. But the advantage is that they look good on your teeth. The lingual-type brackets are not visible since they are attached to the back of the teeth. The traditional bands are the metal brackets are visible since they are attached on the front of the teeth. The metal brackets are being tightened around by metal bands or rubber bands. Ceramic brackets are the most current type of cosmetic type brace systems being utilized on adults. We recommend the rubber bands for our patients since it’s easier to replace and there is no need to physically twist it.
Don’t you worry about having to get stuck with the braces or retainers not of your choice, because there are many better types of braces nowadays. One of the improved types of braces is mini-braces. It fits better than the traditional type since the size is smaller; therefore, it looks better on you and less visible. Detroit Michigan Orthodontist Dr. Kabot will make sure that you have a braces or a retainer that looks best on you. Watching out for your best interest is our number one priority.
